Name: Dr. Lester Grinspoon M.D.
Notes: Grinspoon should be worshiped as a deity
Associate Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Grinspoon was senior psychiatrist at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center in Boston for 40
years. Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Psychiatric Association. Founding editor of the Annual Review of Psychiatry and the Harvard Mental Health Letter. Grinspoon was editor of the Harvard Mental Health Letter for fifteen years.
Dr. Grinspoon was concerned about rising marijuana usage in the 1960's and so set out to research it out of concern. He intended to "define scientifically the nature and degree of those dangers" but as he reviewed the existing literature on the subject Grinspoon reached the conclusion he and the general public had been misinformed and misled.
Dr. Grinspoon is widely known as the author or co-author of several Cannabis/psychedelic-related books, including Marihuana Reconsidered (1971), Psychedelic Drugs Reconsidered, Marihuana: The Forbidden Medicine (1993) and Psychedelic Reflections.
His books have lent a new professionalism and legitimacy to Cannabis as a proven medicine paving the way to the MMJ era. Note he has done this for so long that the original spelling he used was marihuana which is no longer in use.
Dr. Grinspoon now runs Marijuana: The Forbidden Medicine website of patient accounts of marijuana, and marijuana-uses.com with lots of posted accounts and articles. Interesting fact: testified in John Lennon's deportation hearing.
